Day Two in NWU and still no internet. Trying not to go crazy but I hope to have that sorted soon. I did manage to send a quick email to my dad via Hank. Hey where am I going with this, need to skip back to the very beginning.
Okay, so I woke up at 7am or shortly before and decided that then was the best time to shower. I had planned to shower the night before and bleh, was too tired. BTW sorry if I repeat anything from before but heck, I'm too lazy to check back right now. So I showered and then waited for Alex to turn up. I managed to read a good bit of my book and watch all of The Girl who Leapt Through Time, part of Big Bang Theory season three and about 4 episodes of Kami no Shizuku. So yeah, at that stage I'm like "WTF is taking him so long? We're supposed to go get supplies!" so I tried not to freak out and I was a little shy about leaving my room except for toilet breaks.
Eventually I was like. screw this! and left my room at half three and bumped into someone in the pod (there are three to a floor and they were like a communal area) and that was Hank from Omaha. He's one of the RA's on my floor and a real nice guy. We chatted for a while and then I met the girl RA Lacey. Okay, not going to lie, at first I thought she would be too preppy for me to get along with but she's lovely! Really friendly and nice and just a lovely person haha. We helped a nice theatre major move in. She's not your typical first year haha. Her name is Caitlin and she's the same age as me. She is doing musical theatre and toured for two years around the world with a musical theatre group. Turns out her dad's family are all from Northern Ireland! After that me and Hank went back to the pod.
So I chatted with Hank until dinner time and we ran into Alejandro from Spain. We went to the canteen together and got dinner. I haven't a clue what I ate (it was like a pork slice with some sauce and mashed turnip/potato) and it was delicious~~ I found out you fob once (Omfg. We have fobs and they're like the ones used for SuperValu!!) and can go up and get food as much as you like. I love this place. So we ate and then went back to the pod and then parted ways and I watched a little more Big Bang Theory. After being so social for a bit it was weird going back to my room. I understand now what Alex said before. I think it's cause I don't have the internet right now haha. Basically he said there wasn't much to our rooms so we'd spend more time in the pod or around campus socialising.
Anyways. Alex finally turned up with his girlfriend Cassidy (ugh I suck with names!) and introduced her to me and she's lovely. He chit-chatted briefly about meeting him tomorrow morning and just about getting supplies after the orientation and stuff. Then he left and I watched more BBT. Then I got another knock at my door. Okay I know I have a peephole but I have yet to legit use it and I forget about it… a lot!! I thought it was going to be Caitlin and surprise surprise! it was Lacey. She needed help with photoshop. Enter epicmegafaceawesome iMA student - that would be me - and I basically saved the day. Helped her out and hung around the computer lab and got to email my dad thanks to Hank letting me use his name to sign onto the mac there.
See, back to where I started. At dinner I had met Trey and some other girl who I THOUGHT was his girlfriend but um, wasn't? I met her in the computer lab. Her name is Lauren but we didn't chat much. Hank was in the computer room too and then Hank's friend turned up with his international student - James from near Landun (say it in the accent!). He's all tall and looks like he plays rugby. He's nice though and we get along good! Apparently there are three other Irish people here as well. THEN I MET LAUREN. SHE'S OBSESSED WITH IRELAND AND LOVES ME TO PIECES. I'm like "Um… I can help with N. Irish culture but idk about Ireland Ireland stuff." She's addicted to Bulmer's and wants me to smuggle some to her. This amused me a lot.
Me, James, Lauren, Hank & Alejandro went on another campus tour! Why not, the air is nice and warm in the evening so I didn't mind walking around in my howdy top. Turns out Lauren loves photography too so we're going to go take pictures together some time and she says the lecturer for Photography isn't so good and I can learn more myself than going to her class. This makes me feel better about not doing Photography now. Hank is a BioChem major - ack, so smart~~ I finally found out where the laundry room is and can't wait to get my mailbox since I need to buy some things online (I want to get a few posters, some CDs and a couple of other things). Alejandro told me about Walgreen's selling plug adaptors so I need to head there.
After all of this we headed back to our building and I got some mountain dew and diorites for a snack. I think I sat in my room for all of five minutes and then decided I needed to go check on Catilin since she seemed nice. Most other international people kinda say hello and walk on. So I'm back from chatting to her for a good 45mins or maybe longer. She's really nice and yay for making friends. I'm so glad I eventually went out of my room and didn't stay in there waiting for Alex! Agh, kinda annoyed I wasted the day like that. I should have ventured to Walgreen's or something. Oh well, I have plenty of time for that. I needed a notebook for tomorrow but Hank says he can give me one - win!
So far a fantastic day. As Dr. Sheldon Cooper would say: In the world of emoticons I am a colon capital d! Now I'm going to watch some Mighty Boosh and sleep! So used to this timezone it's kinda scary - I'm been awake from 7am to now (22:30) and only getting tired now haha!
